Cataphoresis: 5-year warranty on durability

Outdoors, he who endures wins

Rust, salt and UV rays put a strain on outdoor furniture. The Nitesco cycle with phosphating, cataphoresis and outdoor powders creates a uniform barrier even in edges and cavities. This reduces maintenance and preserves the design over time, providing five years of protection against corrosion and delamination even with heavy use.

Marine areas, swimming pools and rooftops: where protection makes a difference

In marine, humid or very sunny environments, oxidation accelerates. Our system, compliant with Class C4 – UNI EN ISO 12944 and validated with ISO 9227 (salt spray), uses cataphoresis as primer and outdoor powders: thus we guarantee real protection and durability, even in the field, proven.

Application of cataphoresis in typical areas:

  • Littoral and marine: resistance to saltiness
  • Pools/Spas: humidity + cleaning chemicals
  • Rooftop/terraces: UV, heavy rain, wind.
  • Industrial/trafficked areas: aerosols and pollutants

Nitesco’s cataphoresis bases, tables, and seats are therefore ideal for exposed outdoor spaces such as swimming pools, patios, or coastal areas because of their exceptional corrosion resistance.

The complete process and the double protective shield

To fully understand our protection system, let's look at the main steps in the process.

1 - Cleaning and degreasing

The metal is immersed in alkaline baths that remove oils, residues and impurities.

In this way, the surface is perfectly clean and ready to receive the next treatment.

This is a crucial step, as it ensures optimal adhesion of the following steps.

During this stage, a pretreatment with zinc and magnesium salts creates a uniform crystalline microstructure.

Because of this chemical base, the paint adheres better and increases corrosion resistance.

It is a crucial step that forms the protective basis of the Nitesco cycle.

This is the heart of the process. The part is dipped into a tank of water-based epoxy paint.

Through electric current, paint particles are evenly deposited even on edges, cavities and hard-to-reach areas.

As a result, a continuous protective film of 15-25 μm is obtained, perfectly adhering to the metal.

The coating is cured in an oven at temperatures between 130°C and 180°C, setting permanently.

This step transforms the film into a strong, solid barrier.

The result is a hard, stable and firm surface ready for final painting.

A second layer of epoxy or polyester powders for outdoor use is applied to the cataphoresed steel.

This completes Nitesco’s “double shield,” which protects against UV rays, salt, and scratches.
Finally, the aesthetic finish ensures high visual quality and long service life.

Not all paint jobs are the same

To clarify the differences, let us compare the main metal protection systems.

Cataphoresis + Powders (Nitesco)

  • Integrated double protection: electrochemical cataphoresis + outdoor powder coating, combined in a high-performance continuous cycle.

  • Full and uniform coverage: the film penetrates even into edges and cavities, providing complete protection against oxidation.

  • Certified resistance: over 700 hours in salt spray (Class C4) -real defense against rust, UV rays and salt spray.

  • Aesthetically pleasing and stable finish over time: smooth, compact and color-durable surface.

  • Ideal application: professional HoReCa furniture, marine areas, rooftops and outdoor terraces.

Powder coating only

  • Limited surface rotation: effective but uneven at the most exposed points and edges.

  • Average service life: about 200-300 hours in salt spray, suitable for moderate use.

  • Good initial aesthetic performance, but requires more maintenance over time.

  • Recommended for: covered or semi-repaired environments where exposure to weathering is minimal.

Hot dip galvanizing

  • Sacrificial zinc coating: the metal layer wears away protecting the underlying steel.

  • Full but uneven coverage: rough finish, poorly suited for design elements.

  • Very high durability (over 1000 h in salt spray), but limited aesthetics and accuracy.

  • Suitable for: carpentry, infrastructure and industrial structures subject to heavy wear and tear.

An advantage for each in the Horeca world

The durability of cataphoresis bases and seats for professional furniture

In the professional furniture industry, durability is not an option.

Nitesco cataphoresis meets the needs of architects, designers, retailers and HoReCa operators who are always looking for materials that are reliable, stable over time and consistent with the aesthetic demands of the project.

All Nitesco cataphoresis bases, tables, and seats are designed to provide intensive use over time while maintaining aesthetics and functionality outdoors:

  • For designers: a technical finish that preserves design over time.

  • For retailers: added value certified by a 5-year warranty.

  • For venue and hotel managers: less maintenance and long life for their outdoor spaces.

Sustainability, innovation and guarantee over time

Sustainability and industrial innovation

Cataphoresis employs water-based paints and limits solvents.

The process is done in a closed loop to reduce waste and energy consumption. In this way Nitesco combines technical performance and environmental responsibility, offering consistent quality even on large production volumes, at scale.

Royal warranty and certifications

Each cataphoresis-treated product undergoes laboratory testing.

The cycle complies with UNI EN ISO 12944 (C4) standards and passes 700 hours in ISO 9227 salt spray.

That’s why the 5-year warranty is real: certified quality and lasting performance for professional outdoor furniture.

Frequently asked questions

In this section you will find the most common answers about our cataphoresis treatments and products, including bases, tables, and seating for HoReCa furniture.

What is cataphoresis and why does it last longer outdoors?

Cataphoresis is an electrochemical immersion coating.
During the process, the epoxy film is evenly deposited in cavities and edges.
In this way, it creates an ideal anti-corrosion primer for outdoor cycles and high-exposure environments.

Yes. The Nitesco cycle is designed for Class C4 – UNI EN ISO 12944 environments and tested with ISO 9227 (salt spray) tests.
Through this combination, cataphoresis with powdered finish ensures real resistance to salt, moisture and weathering.

Cataphoresis protects deeply and ensures adhesion.
Powder coating, on the other hand, seals the surface, resists UV rays and scratches, and stabilizes the color.
Together, the two treatments form a double shield that ensures maximum durability and aesthetic finish over time.

The cataphoresis film is about 15-25 μm thick, with an average value of 20 μm.
This ensures high uniformity even on edges and hard-to-reach areas, providing complete protection.

Baking takes place in an oven between 130°C and 180°C to cure and stabilize the protective film.
During this step, the coating becomes compact, adherent and ready for powder finishing.

The warranty covers corrosion, peeling and delamination of the protective film on steel products treated with phosphating + cataphoresis + powder cycle.
Basically, it is a complete protection against structural deterioration due to weathering.

Use mild detergents and soft cloths for routine cleaning.
Avoid harsh solvents, abrasives, or close pressure washers.
To prolong life, in marine areas rinse periodically with fresh water.

Nitesco finishes include awide range of RALs and matte, satin or micronized surfaces.
In addition, the outdoor powders are UV stable and designed for long-lasting, professional use.

Galvanizing is a sacrificial protection: it holds up well, but has a rough, uneven appearance.
Powdered cataphoresis, on the other hand, offers uniformity, precision and a superior finish, ideal for HoReCa furniture.
